Weather forecasts, radar, and point-specific data

Check weather forecasts before every trip. The National Weather Service provides the most reliable point-specific forecasts for remote locations, including elevation-adjusted data that commercial weather apps often miss.

  • National Weather Service (NWS) Web — the authoritative source for US weather forecasts. Use the point forecast feature to get forecasts for specific coordinates and elevations.
  • NWS Point Forecast Web — enter coordinates or click the map to get a detailed 7-day forecast for any location. Includes hourly data, wind, precipitation probability, and hazard statements.
  • NWS Forecast Maps Web — national overview maps for temperature, precipitation, wind, and severe weather.
  • Windy.com Web App — visual weather forecast tool with wind, precipitation, cloud, and wave overlays. Useful for understanding weather patterns and timing.
  • Mountain-Forecast.com Web App — summit-specific forecasts for thousands of peaks worldwide, with separate outlooks at the base, mid-mountain, and summit. Helpful when conditions change sharply with elevation between the trailhead and your objective.
  • OpenSnow Web App — snow and mountain weather forecasts written by meteorologists, with daily reports and 10-day outlooks for ski areas and backcountry zones. Basic forecasts are free; an All-Access subscription unlocks the full content.
