Backcountry Skiing

Terrain databases, route descriptions, and tour reports for skiers and splitboarders

These apps focus on backcountry ski terrain itself — tour descriptions, slope aspect, common ascent and descent lines, and trip reports from people who recently skied the route. They are a starting point for terrain research, not a substitute for avalanche and snowpack assessment, which lives under Avalanche Conditions and Snowpack in the Weather section.

  • Powder Project Web App — community-contributed backcountry ski route database with terrain descriptions, photos, GPS tracks, and tour reports. Acquired by OnX in 2024; trail data now flows into the OnX platform, but the original site remains live and useful for browsing tours and reading recent trip reports.
