Free backcountry safety tools built by people who actually use them
— all free, always.
What TrekFreely provides
TrekFreely gives you the resources to plan safer backcountry trips and the tools to keep the people at home informed while you are out there.
Resources for trip planning and self-sufficiency
We are not here to plan your trip for you. We are here to make sure you have everything you need to plan it yourself — and to come back knowing more than when you left.
TrekFreely brings together maps, weather sources, trail conditions, permit info, emergency contacts, Search and Rescue (SAR) directories, radio references, and field tools — all in one place, all linking to authoritative sources. We also publish education content on Leave No Trace, land stewardship, and wilderness preparedness.
A trip portfolio for you — and the people waiting for you at home
You already plan your trips in the tools you trust — AllTrails, Gaia, OnX, paper maps. TrekFreely is not a trip planner. It is the place where all of that comes together.
Your route, your vehicle, your gear, your emergency contacts, your check-in schedule — the trip portfolio collects everything into a single view. Share it with the people at home through a link. No account, no app. They see your trip status, your route, and what to do if something seems wrong.
Why does this matter?
Every year, people get into trouble in the backcountry for preventable reasons. They did not check conditions. They did not tell anyone where they were going. The person at home had no idea what trail they were on or when to worry.
The resources exist to close the first gap — so you are not guessing your way through trip planning, and so you are building the kind of knowledge that keeps you safer every time you go out. The trip portfolio exists to close the second — so the people connected to your trip are never left without information when it counts.
One helps you prepare. The other makes sure that preparation reaches the people who need it.
Why is all of this free?
Because safety tools for backcountry travel should not depend on what you can afford. TrekFreely is built by people who spend their own time in the backcountry. We are not a startup. There are no investors expecting a return. Everything we build stays free — no paywalls, no premium tiers, no strings attached.
